The Owner wished to down size from a 5,000 square foot house to this 3,400 square foot home. However, her extensive art collection and family heirlooms needed to be accommodated in the new design. Also adding interest to her requirements was the dream of building a straw bale house in the urban setting of Milwaukee’s East Village. As one the few straw bale homes built in Wisconsin it incorporates many new and traditional techniques for environmentally sensitive design such as passive heating and ventilating, geothermal heat pumps and extensive lighting controls.
